July NA RR - Whispering Pines Motel

From 1968 comes this postcard featuring the delightful dining room of the Whispering Pines Motel in Accomac, Virginia.  This motel features perfectly appointed accomodations, dining room and soda fountain, t.v. and pool.

Sadly this motel burned just last year. :(  

Swap - The Most Canadian Card, ever!

Joanna has absolutely slayed me with this epic Cows Dairy card.  It just doesn't get any more Canadian than this!  Love it!

Germany - Hildesheim

An official card from Germany!  This one came from a family of three in Hildesheim, a town with a population of 100,000.  They love to travel and take pictures.  Living somewhere as scenic as Germany must afford them plenty of "Kodak moments".  

Germany - Swedish Royal Family

This is not a postcard but rather a printout on photo paper made from a scan of a postcard from the sender's collection.   While I'm sure the sender is genuine in his efforts, I'm not sure how I feel about this... copyright???

Swap - Tombstone Arizona

Swapping with Kimberly again!  She always has awesome cards... like this one!   In it's heyday of the late 1800's Tombstone, Arizona was a booming mining town.  Gold and silver ore made men's fortune but also unleashed the dark side with the town's share of card sharks, thieves, and murderers.  This was the site of the famous shootout at the OK Corral in 1881.  Today it is but a popular tourist attraction.  

Swap - Los Angeles International Airport

Whenever I travel to Los Angeles or hear a story about LAX this song I haven't heard since my childhood gets stuck in my head. This postcard from Kimberly had the same effect. I'm pleased to have an LAX card in my collection though so I will put up with the earworm!  Thank you Kimberly for the card and the care you put into decorating the back!

Ah, Route 66...always awesome.  What a wicked multiview from Lori.  She just came back from a trip through Arizona on Route 66 where she saw man cool old motel signs! 

Swap - Dilapidated Bridge

Bloomingdale Covered Bridge , No 82-01 located over Reedy Creek in Sullivan County North of Hwy 11 W about ekeveb nukes west of Bristol, Tennessee.  This old bridge on a private road had a 44 foot span and was constructed on or about 1880.  This card shows it's dilapidated condition in the summer of 1965.  I'm sure there is nothing left of this bridge today.

June NA RR - We Can Do It

The iconic "We Can Do It" adapted from a World War II-era poster created to inspire workers on the home front, particularly the emerging group of female workers who were filling jobs vacated by men who had gone to war.  It was designed to display in factories where it would motivate the workers.

Awesome vintage motel card from Erin!   Look at that beautiful room!  The Ocean Palm Motel was "the gem of informal living" in Miami.  Private beach with oceanfront patio, this gem existed from 1949 to 2009 according to Youtube.

July NA RR - Puckett Cabin

Another picturesque card from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This is Puckett Cabin at Milepost 189.9 in Carroll County. The site is a preserved log home that was the last home of Orlean Hawks Puckett (1844-1939). Puckett was a mid-wife who helped assist with the delivery of over 1,000 babies from 1890-1939.
