Is there anything more awesome on a day that is minus eleventy billion degrees than trudging through the snow to your mailbox and pulling out the most beautiful sunny hot beach scene postcard? I think not. Thank you Bert for bringing some warmth to the Great White North today!
A rare survivor of a bit of Americana, the barn sign conveyed messages and interest to countless millions of travelers until Interstate Highway standards limited billboards. This sign is located in St. Charles, MO along the I-70.
Thank you Laurie for such a wonderful and nostalgic card!
Angela from Australia sent me this postcard while on vacation in Dubai featuring the world's tallest and most luxurious hotel and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Fancy fancy fancy! Thank you, Angela!
The largest city in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia was founded in 1882 by William Penn. It is commonly referred to as the birthplace of the nation because of the crucial role it played in America's struggle for independence from Britain.
Astrid has done it again, sending me another cool VW card for my collection. The text translates into Off to Freedom. No kidding. Just a VW bus and the open road. What fun!
Love this card from Barbara! I want to start a potato postcard collection. Is that too "out there"? I love potatoes: fried/mashed/baked/roasted/scalloped/etc. and so on. Nom nom nom.
My friends in the North America Round Robin are totally indulging my love of Barbie and I couldn't be happier about it. This one is from Lori. Many thanks!
Here's a wonderful postcard from Ruth featuring the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. I get to Syracuse several times a year but don't think I've ever attended an at the Carrier Dome.
This image is one that I find synonymous with Greece. I've wanted a postcard like this for quite some time so I was happy to have Maria from Athens grant me this from a wishlist tag. Many thanks Maria, this totally made my day!
This card from Dana is fantastic! The Trenholm East Inn in Victor, NY features 105 rooms with an Oriental Flair! Superb Japanese and American restaurant, exciting Jade Tree Cocktail lounge with live entertainment. Absolutely perfect!
I think my younger self would have loved all the excitement of New Orleans. Older self, not too sure. Love this card from Laura though as it really seems to capture the feel of things!
This postcard from my best swap buddy Eric is a perfect example of why I love vintage postcards. It is just a bad photo. The composition is not the best for sure what with the extraneous frames on the left side of the picture, not to mention the glare on the photo of Alex. The girl's expression is priceless and the tour guide looks so stiff he could be a statue. All in all a wonderful postcard!! I love it Eric!
Bahahahahahaha! Another awesome Anne Taintor postcard for my collection. She is so humorous! I particularly love this card because of the vintage furniture and lets not forget the delightful drapes! Wonderful card Michele!!
A wonderful postcard from Valerie. Love this retro trailer from Found Image. I adore all their retro cards and wish I could find a place to easily purchase them.
Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House, established in 1908 is now a restaurant serving mid-day dinner to guests. Located half a block off the Square in Lynchberg, TN according to this 1998 postcard. My friend Google reports that this is still a cool place to visit today and is sort of a must after you take the nearby Jack Daniels tour.
This is the final postcard from my multi-card swap with Sveta. Her friend who lives in Italy sends her postcards from there for her to use on Postcrossing. I was fascinated with this postcard of the Vatican Museum because of the big silver ball, or fractured sphere by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro that sits outside the building. It reminds me of the unfractured satellite ball that sits outside the NRC not far from my home.
This is one of the first postcards I fell in love with upon joining Postcrossing. It really reminds me of my maritime roots. Thank you to Wiebke for sending me this. I'm so happy to have it finally!
I adore this postcard from Debbie in New Zealand! It's no secret I'm a choco-holic so this one really makes my mouth water! Icons of the city of Auckland in chocolate!
My favourite part of this postcard from Sveta is the picture frame at the top. I loved that Monica framed her peephole. If I had a peephole in my house I would have done the same thing!
This postcard left Russia in October and finally reached me today - almost exactly three months later. Worth the wait though as it is a beauty! Thank you Julia!
Switzer covered bridge, situated over Elkhorn Creek, is one of Kentucky's hidden jewels. The bridge, built in 1885, is 120 ft long and was last restored in 1998.
A great trade from Davida! Here's a secret... I HATE bananas, but every once in awhile I just have to have a couple of small slices on a peanut butter sandwich. Blame the king. :)
