January 2016 NA RR - Mission San Juan Bautista

Another beautiful California mission.

The Bell tower or campanario at San Juan Bautista was rebuilt in 1976 as part of a larger mission restoration.  It replaced a wooden tower that was architecturally inconsistent with the rest of the mission and had been removed in 1949.

Fans of Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" will know this is where the movie was filmed.

Thank you Mike for this awesome card!

June 2015 NA RR - Santa Barbara Mission

I find this postcard stunning because of the contrast of the white building against the deep blue sky.  Palm trees never hurt either!

NA RR April 2015 - Santa Barbara Mission

This mission is one of the oldest Spanish buildings in California.  Isn't it lovely?

September NA RR - Mission San Francisco Solano

Love this card from Victoria!  Mission San Francisco Solano is the last established and most northerly of California's 21 missions.  It was founded in 1823, then part of the Republic of Mexico.  It fell into ruin in later years and was used as a winery and hay storage.  It is now beautifully restored and open to the public.

United States - Santa Barbara's Old Mission

Kristy sent me this twighlight view of Santa Barbara's Old Mission.  It's quite lovely and she shared with me some trivia about the California Missions - they were built exactly one days horseback ride away from each other. Neat!

June NA RR - Mission Dolores

Mission San Francisco de Asís, or Mission Dolores, is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco, founded in 1776.  Thanks, Victoria!

July NA RR - Mission San Diego de Alcala

Pretty San Diego Mission card from Amanda. A card from Southern California never disappoints me!
