September 2015 NA RR - Rainbow Row
Typical of the English type of architecture are these double houses of eighteenth century aspect. This East Bay Street scene in Charleston, SC is near the site of Vanderhorst Row, a three story building believed to be the first apartment house built in America.

September NA RR - John Primer Cable Gristmill
Great Smoky Mountains National Park. John Primer Cable helped provide both food and shelter to many Cades Cove families. His water powered mill served as a gristmill to grind corn into meal and as a sawmill to cut timber into lumber. Cable's son John inherited the mill and operated it well into the 20th century.

September 2015 NA RR - Mammoth Cave Hotel Lounge
Erin wins. Erin wins all the things. This postcard is epic! Mostly because Erin writes that she was there and the decor is still the same! (Bigger TV though!)
"Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. This elegant lounge has been designed and furnished for the comfort and enjoyment of Park visitors."

September 2015 NA RR - Fire & Ice
“Fire & Ice: Hindenburg and Titanic,” was an exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National
Postal Museum. Titanic and Hindenburg served demands for
rapid worldwide communication and transportation. Both operated as the
world’s largest mobile post offices. Each in its day promised the
fastest possible worldwide mail service. Each offered onboard gentility
and opulence. Each met a tragic end.
This would have been such an amazing exhibit to see! Thank you, Susan! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

September 2015 NA RR - The Legend of the Cherokee Rose
Before dinosaurs were in existance, the sea covered Oklahoma depositing barium sulfate into the sand. As the climate changed, the sea dried up, and crystals (rose rocks) were formed. Iron oxide in the sand gave the rocks their reddish colour. These beautiful, rare, rose rock clusters can be viewed at Timberlake Rose Rock Museum in Noble, Oklahoma.
